fmilt .. RE:"As far as selling if you don't have absolute faith in management, I don't understand this. There is a wide spectrum between brilliant, moral management and stupid, dishonest management."
There you go putting words in my mouth again. Where did I state that one has to have absolute faith in management not to sell? Where did I say there is not a wide spectrum between brilliant, moral management and stupid, dishonest management? Do you really think that I believe anyone can have absolute faith in any management? Do you also think that I am of the opinion that all managements can be categorized as either great or terrible?
Actually, I wasn't even talking about you, or Ronny either for that matter, when I stated that there are some people on this board who should trust their judgement about management and sell. I'm talking about people who have repeatedly and consistently expressed as little confidence in, and as much disdain for, IDCC management as AMS.
I come out the same place you do on IDCC management but now they have made some very bold predictions with short time frames and if they don't deliver somewhere close to those statements I believe the stock price will suffer for some time. If I get a strong sense that is the case after the CC I will feel that management really screwed up this time and are likely to do so again in the future and I will no longer want to own the stock. Also, I sure don't want to be wading through the kind of posts that are justifiably going to proliferate on this board. Moreover, in my view even defeating #2 and/or placing greater restrictions on the timing of insider selling (neither of which do I assign a significant probability of occurring anyway) will save the stock price and it might even harm it. So, I'll just give the money back to one of the managers that invest my money and return to my carefree retirement LOL. Having said that, if the right "vibes" come out of the CC I will just continue on as an overall IDCC management supporter flaws and all.
Now my last word on shareholder activism. I believe in it strongly for institutions and think it is a waste of time for individual investors. Just an opinion, but an experienced an informed one I think it is fair to say. I also don't think the analogy with political activism holds water. I could sell IDCC and never give it another thought, but there is no way that I am going to live in any other country but the good old USA so I have an obligation to do whatever I can to help make it the best it can be. As for IDCC, that is management's job, not mine.
My job (and my only job now) is to see that my savings are invested in the manner that best secures the continued financial stability of my family and maximizes the quality of our lives. I also am careful to be cognizant that time spent by me on these boards on the one part of my savings not managed by professionals detracts from, rather than adds to, the quality of my family life.

Danny
