I disagree with you, the DMC is not acting in the capacity of judge, jury and executioner waiting to doll out the sentencing when it arrives at one. And who can say this the time that they have it is outside the norm, what is normal about this drug? Normal would be a drug that hardly has any effect at extending lives and typically hurts the patients it is supposedly designed to save.
I consider the DMC to be in the position to promote if the trial results meet and/or falls within certain parameters. The DMC wants beneficial drugs to be produced, they would like to move any beneficial drug forward and that is why we have so many supposed promising and bad drugs. This has to be a whole no area of learning for the DMC and they are probably being educated in the process. Remember if they take too little time they are viewed as a rubber stamp and assumed to be inept if the drug fails/causes damage and if they take their time with such a new fangled drug it can only be on their side if just from appearance sake.
What does Linda know, I assume she knows a lot but is prevented from speaking about it until given the green light. She is probably as frustrated as we are and wishes she never said " I think it will be another couple of weeks". But that is all history now and once news is allowed to be released all this will be forgotten and we are on our way.
You do realize that when there is bad news, it has to be released since it is apparently material and no way to effectively put any noticeable amount of lipstick on it. Good news or even great news takes time, it needs to get through the many hurdles of systematic red tape until it is signed and ready. Come on man haven't you ever dealt with the gov't on trying to accomplish just about anything important, the bad news gets out and the good news stays in.
