Let me add to the discussion: the following is from Wednesday, January 8th, 2014

A coyright site so I guess I cannot cut and paste so I will try to paraphrase if possible. ‘The Army does not intend to “over purchase” in the future’. See last few paragraphs of the above article.

The need for the WASP is for transferring communications without “line of site”. Whether it is one radio or many radios transmitting (don’t know number WASP can handle at one time??), a WASP is needed.

You do not need ONE WASP for ONE radio. Radios are a dime a dozen, and the number of radios is going to be reduced (250000 were to be purchased cannot find URL will keep looking??). Cutting the amount of radios is not going to cut the need for WASPs (my opinion of course but seens logical to me).

What will dictate the number of WASP, is the number of Divisions, Brigades. Companies, Platoons, etc. the Army deems necessary to have a portable WASP.

There have been discussions by board members for the number of WASP but nothing from the Army. Time will tell.
