I wouldn't credit the MMs for making the charts the way they are, but I'm not a MM and could be wrong.

With that line of thinking though, if stocks ran on pure fundamentals, would it then be impossible for someone to "paint" a chart to their own will?

If MMs are directing the charts, why not play along?

Again, I think technicals and fundamentals play together. If a stock doesn't have good fundamentals then I personally don't care enough to look at the technicals or put any money into it. Once in though, I like using the technicals as a guideline to see where a stock might go. Of course news has a chance of skewing the technicals since news can come unannounced or have an unpredicted effect. Lines on the road guide cars, but don't prevent someone from driving over them.

I think technicals also have a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy to it as well. If a lot of chart readers see the same signal to sell, they will all most likely sell and cause the pps to fall. If the same people didn't read charts, then the pps would continue on as normal since no one would be prompted to sell. Interesting to think about anyways.
