Ahem technically speaking if IDCC takes off your market maker buddy calls your stock to cover the short position, and if you want to stay in IDCC with the same holdings then you have to buy more shares, either way as the stock goes higher someone has to buy and thats a fact or put up more money at the brokerage firm to cover losses. In your case I suspect you would have to be a buyer of the stock as your market maker friend just made money on the calls he bought, and he certainly has no need to buy stock as he exercises the call and gets your stock.
