Well, all righty. Was having some second thoughts about my decision to buy a lifetime subscription over here as that window appeared to be closing the other night, but the recent posts from BlueSkyWaves, dishfan, and mschere erased those doubts. Great stuff IMO, and very refreshing to see some constructive thinking about the IDCC investment mixed in with a lot of "the sky is falling" and "I was right, it's the world that got it wrong" stuff. And that's while the stock is UP strong! Go figure what that's about? LOL!
Here is a thought that popped into my dimly lit skull as I was reading through what sounded to me like "don't let the greedy InterDigital employees BUY any more of OUR company at THESE valuations!" arguments(no offense meant to anyone there, it's fine that we all express, and share, our own points of view). Let's suppose we are a couple of professional stock pickers employed by one of the big investment funds. We are taking a look a IDCC to see if we want to put it on our near term "buy" list.
OK?... Would we be concerned about seeing a strong allocation of shares to the management and employees of this little tech growth opportunity at this point(i.e., 20% already and asking for more)? I don't think so, but we may want to put that on the list of questions to ask about when we contact their IR folks. (I should stop here, but I gotta get the rest off my chest.)
On the other hand, what if we saw that a similar portion of the company's shares were held by what might be called "chat room tyros" who have been known to take matters into their own hands, to contact members of the media, and even to seek out other means of exercising their personal influence over the company's direction? A group of activist shareholders who allow their own interests to control their actions, and who appear to have no concern for the consequences of their actions on the company, or on the other shareholders.
Not a likely scenario IMO, but it makes the point that I wanted to make. This forum is supposed to be about sharing information and personal opinions that might help other individual investors make better decisions regarding the IDCC shares. Jim has been very clear and consistent on that point when we were over on The Bull, and when he led a lot of us over here.
"Buy, Sell, or Hold, and vote your personal decisions on those shares you own" is the accepted practice of most shareholders. IMO doing otherwise is a bad idea, and it shows disrespect regarding the rest of us. Posting whatever is on somebody's mind here is one thing(even if the facts are twisted out of shape LOL!), but venturing off this board to influence others regarding IDCC is something else altogether. I'll get off my soapbox now. Apologize for the righteous outburst. Peace.
