i think you're missing the point (so what's new). we are talking about hardware here, not software. contrary to what you seem to think the "single" memory controller doesn't serve each channel sequentially. it has two channels to the memory and it issues commands to each channel simultaneously and accepts data simultaneously. unlike cpus which serve very different threads of execution which makes it very difficult to design one cpu to follow all threads (ie multi-core cpus) memory controllers are relatively simple and it's possible to design one which can talk to two channels at the same time. chipguy seems to suffer from the same affliction but i guess that's why he works at intel
