Intel has been abusing its monopoly status to buy out and shut down compiler companies that support AMD. This isn't a "free ride" issue, its a restraint of trade issue. Intel didn't pay to develop the Kuck and Associates or Compaq Optimizing compiler technology, they paid to shut them down to bar third parties from shipping Athlon/Opteron optimized compilers.
