Finally saw Capote tonight. What an astonishing performance from one of the best character actors in the business today. Philip Seymour Hoffman is perfection as Truman Capote. He captures every detail & I was left with the same impressions that I had of him during the late 60’s & 70’s. He was a brilliant, obnoxious, fascinating & bitter man. I remember him on the talk shows and as a young person I always thought his effeminate mannerism was the reason I disliked him or my own homophobia issues. I realize after seeing this film it was his self absorbed personality that was the turn off and Mr. Hoffman captures that with sheer understated brilliance.
Even though I doubt he will win the Oscar, I think his performance is superior to the other actors I’ve seen so far.
This film also unfolds at a slower pace, but it’s just as riveting as the Novel & the first movie “In Cold Blood”.
