Bill Johnson founded the predecessor company of Liquidmetal Technologies; that company was called Amorphous Technologies Inc.
This was in early 90's (1993, perhaps)

Have no details for your second question(s) except to say the Kangs came in after Mrs Hewitt, great great granddaughter of John Deere. passed away and then took the company public in May of 2002.
