Here's a crazy thought...
With the recent legal successes IDCC has had, both with NOK and others, it would make sense that IDCC felt the timing was right to bring the major players from the wireless industry together and negotiate deals with several players simultaneously. Keep in mind that LU and Tantivy settled with a promise to negotiate rates for IDCC's total patent portfolio. Also, speculation was that confirmation of the arbitration award to IDCC would bring an ERICY 3G license. Kyocera and LG, combined with the LU settlement pretty much sets the standard rate structure for CDMA2000, leaving Samsung with little to negotiate.
What if IDCC is holding signed deals with several major manufacturers, possibly including NOK, and has orchestrated a PR blitz whereby they announce the deals in sequence, building to the ultimate climax of a NOK settlement announcment?
