Alea: Part of what must be sorted through, IMO, is whether Wave's product is worthy or not. If not, I don't think good salesmanship will carry the day.

So, sort out how much of the lack of sales is attributable to the product and how much is due to poor sales performance.

To me, the NSA issues are important, but Wave stunk long before we ever heard of Prism and the extent of US spying. I think the question of backdoors and the like is certainly part of it, but I don't think privacy issues are what is killing Wave.

Wave was not a big enough player to even come up on most radar screens, IMO.

Privacy concerns are important, but IMO, not a big factor in Wave's decline--nothing close to the importance of lack of sales, false promises and the steady non-performance. Maybe even the crippling nepotism might have more to do with the way Wave is viewed by the world than any NSA issues.
