$FRTN has a rich history:
We organized in 1948 as Burke Yarns, Inc., and engaged in the texturing, twisting, winding, dyeing, processing, and selling of cotton, polyester, rayon, nylon, and other specialty yarns. We also were involved in the dyeing and processing of the yarns for others. Our yarns were used in various applications, including automotive fabrics, office furnishings and wall coverings, home furnishings, men’s and women’s clothing, labels, ribbons, and shoe strings. The company served apparel, upholstery, home furnishings, knitting and weaving industries in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Honduras, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka going public in 1970 and changing its name to Burke Mills, Inc.
After many successful years in the textile business, the Board of Directors decided that the domestic textile business was in severe decline and begin winding down its textile operation. On August 9th 2010, the majority ownership of the company was acquired and the company continued winding down its textile operations and made its first share exchange October 5th 2010 with Metro Mobile Media Group, Inc. a mobile billboard media company and began looking for new business opportunities in the media and communications businesses.
Today, we employ over 30 with three regional offices in North and South Carolina in the media and telecommunications integration business serving more than 4,000 businesses, government agencies and special industries.
Our business model is to continue acquiring small and medium ”mom-and-pop” regional operators in the telecom and data business continuous with our operations and to realize synergies and scale while we grow and diversify our product disciplines and employee talent.
Right now, we’re a “Carolina’s story”, as we have been since 1948, but we are growing organically and through acquisitions throughout the southeast with continued development of our products and service offerings.
