hmmm... Maybe his practice should be filing returns. He doesn't have a residence in the States, but as you say, he does have a California practice.

I'm not sure what the law would be on this. I lived abroad for more than 20 years. I didn't have to pay U.S. federal tax on anything I earned abroad, but I did have to pay it on whatever I made in the States. I did have to pay tax in Italy on what I earned there. Since I had no residence (or office) in the U.S., I paid no state or city tax.

So I'm not sure what the implications would be for Eade. If he didn't have an office, but just worked as a sort of freelance attorney, then I suppose he wouldn't owe any state tax. The question of Federal tax is less clear.

So... I dunno.
