Vascepa and Scleroderma..

Scleroderma is an auto immune disease in which there is tightening of the skin and many other body tissues..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scleroderma

Scleroderma attacks small arterioles, is usually progressive and leads to death in a large percentage of patients..10 year survival after diagnosis is 55%...There is currently no effective treatment for Scleroderma...

Anyway about two months ago I posted I gave one of my patients who had Scleroderma a script for Vascepa..Figuring V had strong anti inflammatory properties and it might do something..I reported that after about 10 days she had a rather impressive improvement in her clinical condition...She felt better, stronger, her joint range of motion was vastly improved improved and her GI system and swallowing were much better.

The script I gave her was only for 1 month (I did not think the chance V would work was very good)...Anyway, I saw her today and she told me her condition had vastly improved on V, but that she had run out of pills, and as soon as she stopped taking V her condition started to deteriorate...She was too shy to call me and ask for more pills..Anyway, I gave her a new script...this time with lots of refills...

This story is only anecdotal and does not prove V will cure Scleroderma, but it is still an amazing story..Personally I think the odds are very good it will help Scleroderma patients, and this is a very big deal, because if it works here, it may work in other auto immune diseases...

I ask her to relate her experience with this drug with web sites dedicated to Scleroderma...She is not very computer savy, but does have a daughter in her twenties...
