Senate Vote on Gun Background Checks Expected to Fall Short
A bipartisan push to establish wider background checks on gun buyers is expected to fall short in a tight Senate vote Wednesday after Sen. Kelly Ayotte, a New Hampshire Republican, said she wouldn’t support it.
Ms. Ayotte had been the only Republican who hadn't said how she planned to vote on the measure, and Democratic leaders had hoped her support, along with that of five undecided Democrats, would give them enough votes to pass expanded background checks.
