RIM says "workaround" will ensure U.S. service
Wed Nov 30, 2005 01:23 PM ET

TORONTO, Nov 30 (Reuters) - BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) repeated on Wednesday that it will implement a software "workaround" if a U.S. court issues an injunction to shut down its service in the United States.

RIM was pushed closer to a possible shutdown on Wednesday after a judge refused to delay a patent infringement case against it and rejected a disputed settlement with patent holding company NTP Inc.

"RIM has also been preparing software workaround designs which it intends to implement if necessary to maintain the operation of BlackBerry services in the United States. Further details will be made available if such implementation becomes necessary," the company said in a statement.
