My biggesat preoblem with the broad background checks, that the anti Second Amendment crowd wants, is that they will lead to a national gun registry.
Is there a fool out there that thinks the Government will not build a national gun registry? The safe guards of enhanced background checks pales when measured against the potential for door to door confiscations---using a national gun registry for an address list.
Of course expanding the background checks to gun shows... and also including a mental health background check will not stop hard core criminals from getting their hands on guns. That being said, it should make it far more difficult for borderline criminals and mental head cases to pick them up. Anyone that looks at this reasonably, will know that background checks are a good way to help protect law abiding Americans, without infringing on the law abiding Americans rights to keep and bear arms.
Trying to allow exceptions for gun shows and other venues, just provides a loop hole for those who know they could not purchase at their local retialer due to the already in place background checks there. For all intents and purposes, anyone that has bought a gun at a retailer is already on a list readily available to the Feds anyway.
One more note. If we ever actually get to the point of mass gun confiscations by the Feds, this will no longer be America anyway. Simply no reason to put up barriers for those intent on finding the loop holes just because you are worried about some potential future gun confiscation. If that ever came, it would be flat out civil unrest.
