BioChica....Aspirin blocks one of the important cell membrane receptors (COX) used by EPA and Arachidonic Acid (AA) to control inflammation... If you have very little EPA in your system and a great deal of AA..Then aspirin makes sense since it blocks the pro inflammatory actions of AA by occupying the COX receptor.

As you raise the EPA levels, then EPA can occupy the COX receptors. When EPA binds to the COX receptor it, like aspirin, blocks the pro inflammatory effects of AA,, but it also has the added benefit of producing good eicosanoids which contribute to well being.

When aspirin binds to the COX receptor it also stops the action of EPA...So to get the full benefits of Vascepa you want to stop aspirin..
