I'm a HES shareholder however I don't own a substantial stake and haven't had time to really care too significantly who wins. IMO, having Elliott and other activists around whether on the board or being large shareholders will force HES management to execute or eventually the activists will get their way. If Elliott wins they'll expedite the sell-off/break-up of HES and although it may not maximize long-term shareholder value (compared to HES management's desires) it likely will lead to a significant return to the current share price.
I find the activist situation at SD more interesting.
