French Town to Deliver Papers by UAS.

In another example of dual-use technology, La Poste, the French post office, and electronics company Parrot on 1 April announced <http://www.laposte.fr/legroupe/Actualites/Le-groupe-La-Poste-va-tester-avec-Parrot-la-livraison-de-la-presse-quotidienne-par-Drone>; that they are conducting trial deliveries of daily newspapers with unmanned aerial vehicles (mail, not medium-altitude, long-endurance or MALE, UAVs).

Parrot's AR.Drone mini UAV will be used to deliver newspapers to households which have volunteered to participate in the trial. Some twenty mail UAVs will be prepositioned at post offices or postal centers and the same number of postal carriers are being retrained to operate them. AR.Drones offer the advantage of being able to cross obstacles that postal carriers cannot, fly over dogs and reach upper floors of buildings, according to La Poste.

Residents of Auvergne, a province in south central France, may soon receive their daily paper by drone.

According to a blog post <http://www.laposte.fr/legroupe/Actualites/Le-groupe-La-Poste-va-tester-avec-Parrot-la-livraison-de-la-presse-quotidienne-par-Drone>; published yesterday, local postal service La Poste Groupe has been working for several years to modernize its delivery processes. A plan has been hatched to implement paper delivery by drone in early May with the help of local volunteers, and tests are already underway.
