I would say the whole problem comes down to Complacency, Laziness, Ignorance and Stupidity. This can be cured by Education that includes Civics, true History truly earned grades. JMO

Of course if a family really cares and wants this Constitutional Republic restored to truly being a Constitutional Republic; every household limit video whether TV, Computer and all to 3-hours a day, their choice, video game or TV or ... . And chores should be part of lives; there a hell of lot to be said for self worth and pride.
