When dealing with CHILDREN of differing religious denominations and beliefs it is not ludicrous to drop any mention of god in public school. God means vastly different things to different people.

I am not an areligious person, and my youngest is in public school. While I can respect your religious beliefs, I object to someone of your (and other) religious persuasions influencing my own child's belief system. I believe that the religious education of children is a private matter best left to family and congregation, and not to governmental (public) schools.

I am quite certain that you would not want Catholics, Jews, traditional Protestants, or Hindus influencing the religious beliefs of your child(ren). Ours is not a homogeneous society, and the role of government is not to instill any particular religious belief system in children.
