L2V and wireless_wazoo have pointed out a distinct possibility that Lucent and Interdigital already have a deal in the works. Further, in response to a question by Scott Robertson, Bill Merritt actually uses the word "deal" in his answer:

(from the transcript)

<Q – Scot Robertson>: Hi guys. A quick question going back to the Lucent. Are – is licensing with respect to patent portfolios mutually exclusive from working on some of these advanced technology programs or have you already guys, have you guys already got some stuff online that you have in line to work on with Lucent or that they have in line to work on with you?

<A>: We're really separate as technology components of the deal which has been designed, and then there is separate the issue of working out additional, working through the rest of the parties’ respective portfolios.

<Q – Scot Robertson>: Okay, is there any programs right now that you identify that you are going to start working on in the short-term or is just we've agreed to work with each other if you know, and we'll figure out what comes up?

<A>: We've defined areas where we're going to work and we've indicated the benefit to us will be on the 3G global terminal unit side. So I think there's a good amount of definition there.

What might be the deal that Merritt refers to? I'm not quite sure how to wrap myself around this question and answer.

Any thoughts?

TIA
