No trueblue, I am not calling cleaning the emeralds, enhancing them.
I would think that the emeralds were cleaned with the paint thinner and what ever other cleaners they used. This whole thing seems like they are saying they CLEANED the emeralds with thinner. And you are saying they enhanced them with thinner
Steve Elchlepp, specifically said that he only cleaned them with soap and water and did not know of anyone that could have enhanced them. Then after the break he stated that he used paint thinner on them. If you didn't know it, paint thinnner, gets into every crack and imperfection in a raw emerald and makes it look worth more then it is.
Jay Specifically stated that no one put anything on any emeralds or enhanced them. Then after lunch he came back on the witness stand and stated that his brother Greg put oil on them. I don't know about you, but putting oil on an emerald is not cleaning it, it is enhancing it. To be fair in my opinion, if Jay or Steve would have stated when either of them first testified that they had put the paint thinnner and the oil on emeralds, I would not have a problem with it.
Lastly, the biggest thing I have a problem with is Jay and Steve saying that they NEVER saw or got a verbal report on the VALUE OF THE EMERALDS. I don't know about you, but everyone I know, would have had a value placed on them. Especially after they were sent to so many experts by Jay. Then we have Jay's attorney trying to keep Jay's own experts reports out of the Court Brief's, about the emeralds being enhanced. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck?
So, when the only expert that gets on the witness stand. Says that the emeralds are only worth $50K or less. Don't blame him. Besides, I heard that some of the biggest emeralds never showed up in court to be examined. If that happened I think Jay and Steve have a lot to answer for.
