That is where we differ, precedent can be used not just by those that claim to have the well being of humanity as a first goal, but by those that would for one reason or another want to enforce their will on others. Once you lower the barriers for the initialization of an international conflict, you don't know when China would use the same precedent to invade Taiwan, or for that matter, any pair of countries in Africa go after each other for whatever petty arguments their leaders might have.
