Democratization, in addition to peace, security, stabalization of oil prices, reconstruction of Iraq for Iraqis, establishment of a base of US military & intelligence operations in the heart of enemy territory, the chance to educate, inspire and provide hope to an entire regional population (where no freedom currently exists) are all excellent reasons go get in there right away.

The poor, mainly illiterate peoples need a crack at a future. Hard to see any chance for them if they continue to live in the dark ages, and be filled with hatred, jealousy, resentment and irrational, fanatical extremism.

I agree, that the precedent-setting nature of a pre-emptive strike is dangerous, but the alternative is worse and the benefits that will follow will far outwiegh the risks and dangers.
