You are starting with the wrong premise. You are making the assumption that all that government spending is warranted and well placed. That's far from correct. I have posted on this subject several times in the past.. . and I have the correct information from first hand personal experience. About the free school lunches in a neighboring suburb that have gone from less than 10% participation to over 40% participation in less than 10 years. My neighbor that is a teacher in this school says it's because people lie about their income stating only the mother's income for example in order to get the free lunch. In other words it's not based on need but rather on how easy it is to get something for nothing.
Also, I made a trip to my local social security office so that I could understand better what's going on there as well. The waiting room was packed to capacity with more waiting outside. Over 100 people and less than 10 looked old enough for SS retirement and only 3 where either in a wheel chair or had an obvious disability. In other words less than 10% appeared to have a real need to be there. I asked the security guard ( why do we need a security guard at an SS office ??? ) why all these people are here. His answer was "disability".
These are all the people that voted for Obama... The free lunch crowed. They voted for socialism... They would rather get a government check than go find a real job.
So, no, I didn't get part of this "redistribution"... I provided it for the leaches sucking on the government punch bowl.
Also, I didn't just say that the needy should not be cared for. There are always people that require help and we should make sure that happens. The reason poverty seems rampant to you is because you start with the premise that those receiving a check are in need of it... That is simply not the case... Do some simple fact checking in your own community that is not based on an opinion that someone wrote on a blog or a message board... I did and found appalling evidence that MOST of the recipients are stealing from the people that are paying the taxes.
Your last item "Would you like to live a month with Government food stamps? " The answer to that is a resounding NO. And I am doing something about it to avoid that.
