aveng: Nice article, and this just hit me after reading it...
What if a barcode, picture, word, whatever could be linked to one or two more locations based on the software that was used to access it?
That would essetially garner two "registry" or license fees for the same barcode/logo/word/picture while (if an agreement was made between the original owner of the "scannable" item in conjuction w/ the enabling partner ;) giving the end user (consumer) the "choice" of two or more options of information gathered from the one "item", based on of their (the consumer's) desire to see "this or that or the other".
What I'm thinking has to do w/ NeoMedia's agreement w/ Shelron and ActiveShopper. Say, your looking at a new TV. You scan the barcode which, (through PC or whatever "branded" (licensed;) PC software your using) takes you to wherever the MANUFACTURER (or owner of the barcode/logo/picture/word itself) (license fee;)) wants you to go - be that a promotion, additional information, whatever - OR, if you use the ActiveShopper software, it will translate that barcode to a comparison shopping list showing you (the consumer) where to find the best deal on that TV.
Two for the price of one (for the consumer - all free of charge) - direct manufacturer info or (in this case) comparison shopping data.
WOW!!! DOUBLE GOOD!!!!
For some reason, as I thought this, the rememberance of the statement by a great American who was assasinated for his views popped directly into my thoughts, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last." ...MLK 8/23/63
