Dig and others

On Language and other things.

1. An interesting point about turned on. Of course, Apple has never adopted the TPM standard and has not joined the organization. The TCG can't prevent a non member from shipping the device turned on. It is not breaking the rules of an organization of which I am not a member. Makes me think that maybe when the consumer version is really ready to go that rule might be changed.

2. I note that the Winbond safekeeper that I have been waiting to see sold for three years is highlighted on TCG products page. I hope this has meaning and is not just a regular rotation.

3. Just to clarify my own ambiguites. I have supported SKS since I wrote my first posts about the absurdity of nepotism charges against him in 1998. He does a great job!!! Sure, I'm frustrated by not seeing stuff happening and being told that Embassy I, owning Europe, TPM 1.1 not delaying things, and much of the talk about MSFT not delaying things and being a benefit.

Some of that was his own timeline, his own faith, his own actual mistakes and some of that was his protecting the company and my investment (very long term). However, most turtles have taken an internal vow of waiting. It's hard to wait!!! Situations change. Children and grandchildren grow up -- houses need repair, divorces happen, expectations of trips and other kinds of financial freedom get dashed as the slog continues.

Still business is war and generals keep secrets to win wars. Generals suggest the invasion is coming from the Riviera when it is coming across the channel. Misdirection can cause heartache. Misdirection can also save money and allow for ultimate victory.

3. Berlind's point it seems to me suggests that Berlind hasn't taken the time to understand what is going on. TPM 1.1 is not upgradeable BECAUSE the EU wanted a feature in the system to allow for privacy involving the attestation of remote machines. It is the exact opposite of putting a serial number on every machine from a practical point of view. It is part of the REAL delay over which SKS had no control above. Also, he does not seem to understand that secure start-up is REQUIRED for certain enterprise stuff and it is not just full disk encryption. But then journalist can always retract/change their understandings unlike our rather permanent committment when we buy and sell shares at a certain price.

4. Frustrated yes, but as hopeful as ever that Snackman's long delayed IMO (not a prediction) of doubling every quarter for a decade started several quarters ago. Like the doubling of rice on the squares of a chessboard....somewhere around the eight quarter (about a year and a half from now...the numbers get rather interesting.) And the numbers are all that matters as I believe SKS told everybody who was listening carefully. Any sufficently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magicians.
