OT: I wouldn't necessarily believe the guy who stated in 2007 (paraphrasing) that the unfolding sub-prime mortgage problem would be contained and it wouldn't impact the wider economy. Even if he had sophisticated models.

You're right; I have my beliefs, and I'll stick with my belief that without addressing the underlying cause, treating the symptom is counterproductive.
