Hi mlsoft,
I believe that using the comparision of the talents was used so that people at the time would have some idea of how to value God's gifts. Comparing them to gold and silver was the only way for them to associate a value to them as that is what they saw as Valuable. Yes, I agree that the script had inserts that leaned the reader to comparisions to the Lord and that was why it was worded so. The idea is "When the Lord returns what will you be able to show him you have done with the Gifts he has given you. Have you used them wisely and had some growth. Or have you not used anything that the Lord has given you and stayed exactly the same as before?". Would that be a better interpretation?
