My comment .Something for the number crunchers..Ericsson has delivered 10,000 WCDMA base stations and NEC/Siemens 8,000.

The problem is that the cost of 2.5G and 2.75G upgrades is small when compared with 3G. For 3G networks the technology used will be Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA). To deploy WCDMA, the number of base stations required will be six to seven times more than those required for GSM. Each GSM base station, depending on capacity, costs between $35,000 and $75,000, while those for WCDMA are almost twice as expensive. At higher frequencies, the number of base stations required also increases since the geographical area covered by the waves reduces -- making the transition costly
