This device found on Jan Schroers presentation is what is called an "arming slider":
www.nnin.org/doc/snmr10/Schroers_Feb10.pdf
It is part of a fuze for some types of munitions. These patents describe how it arms the weapon:
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7849798.pdf
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6964231.pdf
The inventors of those patents won an award from the Army for their research in the area:
http://www.pica.army.mil/picatinnypublic/news/archive/2006/08-14-06.asp
Charles H. Robinson, Robert H. Wood, Mark R. Gelak, Thinh Q. Hoang and Gabriel L. Smith, all from AETC in Adelphi, Md., were selected for their work on the Advanced Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems based technology for mechanical safety and arming devices. The extraordinary contribution to fuzing technology now allows the development of smaller, lighter, less expensive fuzing for a large family of projectile munitions and submunitions.
At least one of these inventors, Robert H. Wood, has worked with Liquidmetal alloys:
http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA439854
Liquidmetal, on their website, lists "Fuzes and Sub-Munition Components" as part of their example products:
http://liquidmetal.com/applications/defense-applications/
L-3 Communications through their Fuzing and Ordnance Systems company is the largest manufacturer of fuzes in the United States:
http://www2.l-3com.com/fos/
Liquidmetal in the past has worked with L-3 Communications:
http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/OTCBB/LQMT/reports/2002AR.pdf
...the Army introduced L-3 Communications ... to Liquidmetal Technologies and
our ability to produce thin, lightweight and strong electronic casings. As a result, our alloys are
being considered as a casing for the Common Guidance Unit, which will be used in precision
munitions for all three branches of the U.S. military
My guess is that Visser will be producing the Liquidmetal parts of these fuzes and sending them to L-3 Communications' Fuzing and Ordnance Systems for final production.
