The value in being affiliated with this regatta is in the networking at the parties and events surrounding the regatta, so freebies or not, this has the ability to be a good idea. No one gives a crap what equipment the crews are using. A company of ours sponsored a tasting event at a regatta in St Thomas in March, and the new relationships became valuable quickly. Hopefully WSGI will hire some presentable people to represent them at the events. You can't send these people.
