One other thing new people need to worry about is buying multiple positions in the same stock throughout the day, and then selling them all at once at the end of the day. That is considered multiple day trades.

For example:
11:15 - BUY 5000 shares AGRT
11:35 - BUY 1000 shares AGRT
13:10 - BUY 50 shares AGRT
15:58 - SELL 6050 shares AGRT.

You just did 3 day trades.

The reverse is not true. You can buy a single position and sell it as many times as you want during the day while only incurring a single day trade.

Also, no matter what remember to leave yourself one pattern day trade as an emergency exit. No one can be right 100% of the time, and there's no worse feeling that buying in to a stock only to realize you were very very wrong and can't get out until tomorrow.

Only use up to 2 of your day trades at any given time and always carry the last one as an emergency backup. And if you use it? No more trading until you get a day trade back.
