I have Scotttrade Rip, and you only need 2,000 to open a margin with them. Just did it today as matter of fact, and they approved it within 3 hours, which was crazy fast. I dont have $25,000 in my account, and thought what you did. Dug a little deeper and found it wasnt the case, its just 25 to actively day trade
