It was never an option for the US to stop Russia or China from developing Nuclear weapons. But there has been a concept in play since the early 1950s that has sucessfully neutralized nukes in the hands of the Powers. That concept is MAD ( Mutually Assured Destruction)

That concept is off the table when dealing with Iran and their religion where martydom is their highest calling. No culture or religion in history has used suicide bombers by the thousands. Even Kamakazis didn't kill their own.

The civilians, men, women & children, that are killed or maimed in a suicide bombing are justified by much of Islam because the victims' journey to Paradise has been hastened. They are all considred martyers.

Shitte Islam belives in the concept of the Twelth Iman. They believe the World will go into Chaos and the Twelth Iman will return and rule the World. Ahmadinijaid is thought to belong to a cect within Shitte Islam that believes the World can be pushed into choas, hastening the return of the Imam.

Personally, I don't want to see nukes in the hands of people with those beliefs. But hey! That's just me.
