Exports grow 21% at $303.7bn, deficit widens to record high
NEW DELHI: India's exports grew 21 per cent and marginally crossed the exports target at USD 303.7 billion in 2011-12 over the previous fiscal.
Imports shot up by 32.1 per cent to USD 488.6 billion, leaving highest-ever trade deficit of USD 184.9 billion, according to the Commerce Ministry data released today.
During March, exports fell 5.71 per cent to USD 28.68 billion, while imports grew by 24.2 per cent at USD 42.58 billion leaving a trade gap of USD 13.9 billion.
Gold climbs to record high of Rs 29,690 on seasonal buying(India)
NEW DELHI: Gold prices set yet another record high of Rs 29,690 per 10 gm in the national capital on Tuesday on rising wedding season demand amid a firming global trend.
Gold which had gained Rs 700 in last nine days, rose further by Rs 100 to Rs 29,690 per 10 gm, a level never seen before.
However, silver met with resistance at prevailing higher level and declined by Rs 100 to Rs 56,800 per kg.
