arizona1 -- somebody, apart from the executive and legislative branches unless we want to guarantee that the Constitution literally means nothing, has to have the final say on what is and is not constitutional -- and having elected Supreme Court justices is at least arguably the last thing we need (think of an election year like 2010) (and decisions like Brown v. Board of Education, how long would they last?) -- would guarantee that all Supreme Court justices would at all times be politicians and politicians only, constantly fundraising and running for re-election -- rather than the objective and impartial arbiters of the law they're supposed to at least try to be
