I checked the Nasdaq site and found AMD's "real time" institutional ownership to be 80.1%. This is information from the latest institution filings.

Institutions have 45 days after the close of a quarter to file a form 13F with the SEC which shows their ownership at the quarters end.

Another site is showing 82.30% and 81.80% variously. I've no idea why it changes - probably just a glitch.

I notice that reports change within a quarter. I suppose this is because results from the previous quarter comes in dribs and drabs during the 45 days and even beyond it, if they are late.
