I said that MON may underperform other global companies. MON has headwinds now and the easy growth is maybe over?
I would respectfully disagree. How can the world’s growing population possibly be fed if MON (and the other companies in the ag-biotech business) do not continue to grow by developing better-yielding seeds? Cities are not going to be converted back to farmland, so the amount of worldwide arable land is probably close to its peak—if it has not peaked already.
When Greenpeace goes after a company they have a lot of clout…
Indeed they do, and this is one reason many European countries have not allowed biotech crops to be grown on their own soil—although they (hypocritically) do permit importation of grain grown using biotech seeds planted elsewhere.
Then we have the…health studies showing the negatives of GMO surfacing.
If you know of studies from a scientifically credible source without a political agenda that show harm to human health from consuming grain derived from biotech seeds, please let me know—I’m not aware of any.
Many people confuse cross pollination that has brought us nice things like seedless oranges and grapes, but GM food is basically new food.
In case you didn’t know: MON spends about 50% of its R&D on conventional (non-biotech) breeding. Regards, Dew
