The day after I took him home I was concerned about how shut down he was. He didn't even meow in the cat carrier on the way home. I did an internet search on how to help a traumatized cat and read about the slow blinking, which some cats also give to their owners to let them know they are content and happy.

The very first time I did this with Tigger, he responded with a slow blink, gave off a little meow and approached me. It was a very satisfying moment. I sensed relief in him that he was in a safe place with someone who spoke cat language. I was not looking to adopt a cat and only took him as a temporary foster when none of the former owner's family or friends would or could take him. After he opened up to me and began recovering from his depression, he touched my heart so much that I couldn't give him away.
