Ha, ha, they should have played high school or college sports. I had several coaches who specialized in ensuring I knew what a complete screwup and useless idiot I was when I messed up a play or dropped a ball. But they were only a gentle preview compared to my Army drill sergeant. I attribute a lot of my success to those guys. Self esteem is absolutely worthless, you need others to view you with esteem and the way you get that is by working smarter and harder than everyone else.
