I read that reference to 10% of the judgment as being the analyst's idea of where to start the negotiations with Ecuador. In other words, if Ecuador would agree to settle for less than the amount of their judgment, Gheit recommends Chevron would be wise to pay at least 10% of that judgment or 2-3 bill. to get rid of it.

I think Ecuador's attorneys should shoot for a number somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-6 bill. to get this done. I think Chevron could easily pay this amount and its enough to take care of those 30,000 plaintiffs, even if they want to relocate and start over.

just some thoughts. What I don't know is whether they would pay taxes on this judgment to Ecuador and what agreements the plaintiffs might have on how to use this $$$$ if and when they settle with Chevron.

Obviously, 18 bill is quite a bit more cash, but the likelihood of collecting this sum is not great and at least a few more years down the road.
