Thanks Loop. I have had a little time to think about it and agree IDCC's moves have been impressive.
I expect that NOK will announce that they are appealing the decision in an attempt to delay payment as well as keep the stock price suppressed. I would also expect a return of BOD bashers as part of that same effort. If they were successful in keeping the price down, there would be an accompanying cry for replacement of BOD members as well. IDCC anticipated that of course and moved to check NOK before they could act. I was surprised at first when I saw that NOK still had the option for an early payment discount as I would have expected that to already expired. However, IMO, IDCC has it in place not only as a carrot to NOK but to Samsung as well, who might realize that an agreement w/IDCC is inevitable. As I speculated earlier, I would think that, as part of the action filed today, IDCC will ask for an injunction against all NOK products sold in the US until there is a settlement w/NOK. Samsung would be faced with the possibility of the same and therefore might more likely break ranks w/NOK. The possibility of fashioning a 3G agreement as part of a 2G settlement (w/ 2G discounts for the agreement) might be the thing that would get Samsung on board, possibly provide another trigger and leave NOK out on the limb by themselves. I would imagine that NOK is working hard on Samsung right now to hang with them but it looks like IDCC has made some good moves.
