I don't know but it usually accumulative over a period of time and then something triggers nerve impingement enough that they start having deficits which can be permanent if not decompressed and or stabilized. Remember in Canada you wait and wait. He probably has been in constant discomfort for a long time..He should have immediate relief after surgery. Hope has no permanent residual problems.
