Eric:I think the Googorola deal is weird in a lot of ways not only perhaps 'distracting' but as I posted previously:

http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=66254491

MOT split up into motorola home and motorola mobility and I don't know who has done an analysis of who got what patents. I would assume that MOT has a fairly strong patent portfolio although perhaps and apparently not a big slice of the 4G/LTE pie.

Whether it is enough and whether Google is done buying with that strange acquisition remains to be seen.

A lot remains to be seen--how the Googorola deal plays out--very strange for Google to buy a handset maker, which isn't doing well, with 19,000 employees and a strange mix of corporate cultures (MOT=a bunch of engineers with pocket protectors and facial twitches/Google a bunch of hip young folks who play pool and ping pong in house); hardware and software cultures don't typically mix well, strange that Google would buy a handset maker which makes them vulnerable to being sued; strange that this seems to put them in competition with their Android OEMs--if it is true that Google has promised MOT that they'll have six months advantage over other Android makers on new developments, even weirder for their relationship with their OEMs--I don't even think that offering a cross license to all of them will be enough to keep them in the fold.

And the take out fee is strange too, as well as the action in MMI where there seems to be some bet against this all coming off...

One move in a chess match, one battle in a war (to mix my metaphors)
