On Bloomberg TV this AM I heard

One reporter/anchor saying that he had seen the Chairman of Google over the weekend and quoted him as saying that the MMI purchase was NOT about the patents but that Google WANTED to get the hardware experience that they lacked, and it would help them understand the inside of the phone in new ways and thus help them further develop the Android ecosystem.

Which is interesting.

Further discussion included a discussion of how Google would now be competing with their own Android OEMs to which the reporter/anchor emphasized that for Eric Schmidt the prime directive is to protect the Android ecosystem.

He has also recently been quoted as saying that the MMI IP is the nuts (poker reference to the best hand) but I think that independent analyses say otherwise.

No way would I rule Google OUT of the IDCC auction. In fact IMHO if they got IDCC they would get a leg up over APPL particularly in 4G/LTE--and vice versa.
