On the Power link in Control Panel you should be able to temporarily put the Display on Never, and you can change the setting for when the computer goes to sleep to Never also. It's not a bad idea to turn off the screen saver while scanning also. (if there is one active)

"Sort of" is harmless "Sort of". Is a filler. But sometimes, "sort of" means everything. Like after "I love you" or "You're going to live" or "It's a boy".
